Polizu Manor was built between 1800-1887 and was primarly used as the summer residence of the Ghika-Polizu-Micsunesti boyard family. It was ordered to a team of Italian architects and offer as a marriage gift to Alexandrina Polizu.
It once represented the meeting place for the boyards of the time, having witnessed the visits of Mary the Queen of Romania, princes Ileana and Nicolae, and the historian Nicolae Iorga.
In April 1944 Russian troops occupied Targu Frumos, Harlau and the manor, destroying buildings and stealing the wine from the cellar. Next to the manor they built a small Russian military hospital and a small commanding unit. The farm was freed only in August 1944.
Testimonies of the villagers tell stories of the atrocities the military have done on jewelry, libraries and furniture. 24560 books were burnt, all furniture destroyed or stolen, walls and doors were teared apart and architectural decorations thrown away. After the war, the domain continued to suffer during the nationalization period.
In 2015, after long trials and exhausting procedures, the true inheriter, Irina Ioana Riscutia manages to get back the domain from Maxut in a very deteriorated state. On January 11, 2006, the manor entered an extensive process of restauration that took five years long.
Mrs Riscutia started the process with the help of entrepreneur and visionary Constantin Stefanuca. The two brought to life one of the few still standing manors in Romania. The smallest details were considered for the park and buildings to have the former grandeur. In 2014, all annexes were restored and in 2016 a pool was added.
Our rooms are true oasis of peace and quiet. Bright and spacious they mirror the aristocratic hospitality and modern necessities. They are all located in four buildings each governed by common sense, elegance and respect for coziness.
We have 25 rooms on our domain: 7 in the main historical building, 4 in the groundfloor annex, 7 in the upper annex and 7 by the poolside. Also, guests can have breakfast in a separate hall, and we also offer them a beautiful garden and pavilion for organizing events.
Our menus change according to season, availability and the chef's inspiration. Chef Serban Radu Cristian is at your service!
