Description
Pensiunea Oppidum is a traditional Saxon house, perfect for a relaxing holiday.
The house is spacious and it can host up to 9 guests.
The facilities we offer are: free parking, vegetable garden, breakfast made from traditional products and fresh vegetables from our garden, terrace, playgrounds for the children, two bathrooms (showers with hydromassage), beds with relaxing mattresses, fully-equipped kitchen, free wi-fi.
Location and surroundings
You can find us in a rural medieval settlement, at the foot of some hills, in the village of Biertan. Authentic Saxon houses which are hundreds of years old are concentrically arranged around the fortified church, an UNESCO monument, with unique elements in Europe. You will find us right by the fortified church in Biertan.
If you want to try consecrated Romanian cakes (apple pie, farina, eclair), the nearest cake shop is at about 5 minutes walk away. The nearest restaurant is at 100 meters from our location.
The International Airport of Sibiu is an hour and a half away from us.
Space
Pensiunea Oppidum is a traditional Saxon house which is over 300 years old. This traditional house is perfect for couples, friends or families. The house is typical to the medieval area and it offers a relaxing ambience. Dressed in old robes which faced last century's wars and disasters, Pensiunea Oppidum will make you witnesses of an exceptional holiday.
You will be surrounded by nature in the garden, you will feel the fresh air, you can watch the fortified church in Biertan and you will relax having a meal specially prepared for you.
Every morning we serve breakfast, which includes special products, as the famous zacusca, local cheese and freshly picked vegetables from our garden.
In the interior, the Saxon house has one suite for 5 guests (1 double bedroom and 1 triple bedroom), with private bathroom and tho double rooms with shared bathroom. The bathrooms include modern and relaxing facilities: hydromassage shower, free toiletries and a charming atmosphere.
Every room has traditional pieces of furniture made from wood, beds with comfortable mattresses, rugs which were hand-woven at loom, lamps in the form of torches for a medieval mystery whiff, windows facing the garden.
Children under 6 years old are welcomed for free in the existing beds in the room. Unfortunately, we don't have the possibility to add extra beds. We made a kitchen available where you can cook the best dishes. We have a dining room, which is also ideal for conferences, with a capacity of 40 places.
The staff speaks German, Italian and Romanian.
Activities
The village of Biertan is picturesque. It has fascinating landscapes and medieval constructions which are waiting for you to discover.
The best known attractions from the area are:
- The Fortified Church, an UNESCO monument with unique elements in Europe, located right by your holiday home.
- The Biertan Museum is nearby and it hosts old Folk clothing, Saxon pieces of furniture, traditional handcrafted pieces.
- The Covered Staircase, located at 150 meters, which will take you to mysterious places.
- The Clock Tower, from where you can watch the surrounding towering houses, the hills, the forests and the grasslands;
- At a 2 minute walk from the location you will find the Tower of Slanina, the place where you can taste and even take home some of the best food;
- We recommend an outdoor movie night in the Melies Garden.

Cazarea la pensiunea Oppidum a fost excelenta: este localizata langa biserica fortificata, dispune de o curte foarte mare, curatenia ireprosabila, iar micul dejun a fost foarte bun, compus doar din produse traditionale locale.
