Description
Welcome to Casa Thea, our traditional household from Banat Mountains.
We are located in Socolari, a village from Caras-Severin which is straight out of fairy tales. Being called “The Rock Village”, it earned its fame by the unique construction style of the houses which attracts tourists from everywhere, willing to capture the architectural beauty and to experience a long gone lifestyle in the West.
Nature surrounds the place and the quiet rules everywhere. Here, the air has miraculous properties, recognised since the interwar period, when Queen Mary built the most known sanatorium of Europe.
Some carefully taken care of houses are sprinkled around the ancient civilization's ruins, guarding the village paths. Every one has its own story, being enlivened by the memories of those who they hosted for more than a century.
Space
We, at Casa Thea, wanted to continue this fairy tale by completely restoring the old household and opening its gates to welcome guests from the whole world. In the yard, nature pleases our sight and the interior lures us towards it.
Casa Thea has 15 accommodation places, an event hall and a spacious restaurant for 100 people. We offer you 5 accommodation units, ideal for couples, families or groups of friends. The rooms have single or double beds, made of wood, with comfortable mattresses.
The thick rock walls guarantee a good night's sleep, excellently isolating the rooms, both thermally and phonically. Each room has its own specific, oscillating from traditional or manorial to contemporary.
Every room has its own private bathroom, desk, air conditioner and access to wifi internet.
Restaurant
Our restaurant with an la carte menu is waiting for you with the best traditional dishes, cooked with organic products, which we get from our neighbours. The local gastronomy is delicious and this helps us offer an experience which makes every sense of our guests enjoy.
Other experiences in Banat Mountains
If you come to this area, don't forget that you can live some unique experiences here. You can take a train ride on one of the oldest mountain railways from Romania, taking the Oravita-Anina route, which has 33 km. You will ride through a forest with charming landscapes, going through 14 tunnels and 10 viaducts.
You can also visit the oldest theater of Romania, The Old Mihai Eminescu Theater, an exact replica of the Burgheater Theater from Wien, the greatest theater of Austria. It was built in 1817.
Don't forget about the Nera Gorges, with its famous Beusnita and Bigar waterfalls. These are located only 5 km from Casa Thea.
