Description
Located in the heart of Transylvania, in the beautiful Făgăraș County, the settlement of Sumerna is guarded by the highest peaks of the Fagaras Mountains, Moldoveanu, Vistea Mare and Negoiu, being the smallest and most coquette settlement in this county. Here, in the middle of nature, in a beautiful meadow, Casa de sub Munte is waiting her guests, dressed in traditional clothes from the grandmother's chest.
Casa de sub Munte is a family project and therefore, love and respect for grandparents and great-grandparents determined us to give life to each old object, thus keeping their memory alive. We invite you to discover the "dowry between the mountains" in a fairytale setting, away from everyday worries, the hustle and bustle of cities and daily stress.
The rich nature and wildlife we are living in and with, is of high importance to us. Next to wild ducks, storks and great blue herons, the adjunct forest gives home to bears, deers, wild boars, stags, wolves, lynx, bats, squirrels, owls, buzzards, bats, frogs, and all kind of smaller animals.
We try to make this wildlife in a careful way accessible to you.

The rich nature and wildlife we are living in and with, is of high importance to us. We invite you to explore the nature surrounding the villa, to glimpse behind the scenes and discover why Casa de sub Munte is so special.
- Hiking on mountain trails
The Făgăraş Mountains are the highest mountains in the country (2544 m Moldaveanu Peak, 2535 m Negoiu Peak) and are part of the Southern Carpathians. These routes are accessible from the Sumerna area.
- BBQ and kettle area
As the heart of a house is the kitchen so is the bonfire place and the beehive oven the heart of the garden. Let us present you a beautiful green area, allowing us to invite guests for Barbecues, Bonfires and sheer leisure.
- Bonfire place
A classic event that usually marks the last night of a perfect trip. Plum brandy and mulled wine with folk music complete the fun. We invite you to spend the last evening of a stay in the mountains with friends, colleagues or family and listen your favorite songs around a bonfire. The bonfire activity is organized by the owner and is for a fee.
- Fishing
In the courtyard there are two lakes with fish, surrounded by a fence for the protection of tourists.
Itineraries
Towering mountains, clear waters, idyllic hills bordered by the Olt River, wild nature, but also places full of history or spirituality. An amazing diversity of tourist treasures concentrated within a radius of several tens of km calls you to discover them, charging you with energy. The little guide below is designed with the intention of discovering these places as easy and enjoyable as possible:
- Valea Sambatei Chalet- Take an easy hike to the "Fagaras Alpine Void" Natural Park, on the Sambata Valley. From here, the mountain lovers are hiking up the Fagaras ridge, the longest ridge route in Europe, reaching the peaks Moldoveanu, Vistea Mare and Negoiu, the highest 3 of the Carpathians.
- Orthodox monasteries at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains. You could spend a day visiting the Sambata Monastery and the Sinca Veche Monastery, built on the site of a cave monastery.
- Fagaras Fortress - an extraordinarily well-preserved fortress with a spectacular museum. A fortress surrounded by a defense lake, with a tumultuous history. If you are in Fagaras and have energy, you could take a 50 km run with the car to Racos, where you can see spectacular geological formations reminiscent of the Grand Canyon, an emerald lake and basalt columns. And if you get to Racos, you can deviate another 20 km to Rupea, where the old fortress guards the city from a high hill, offering magnificent views.
- The Bruckental Museum in Avrig, the ensemble of the former Cistercian Monastery in Carta, the fortified churches in Bruiu, Cincu, Cincsor.
- Panorama view from Rucar-Fagaras. From the hills that rise on the northern bank of the Olt, you can admire the whole saw of the Fagaras Mountains, as well as the whole depression of the Fagaras Country, located between the mountains and Olt. There are hiking or cycling places with views of rare beauty, unpolluted places, where the diversity of flora and fauna is extraordinary and where you can recharge with all the energy of the earth.
- Sambata de Jos Horse Farm - the tradition of raising Lipitan horses.
- Valea Zanelor Clay Castle from Porumbacu de Sus.
- Aventura Parc Dragus.
- Visit the famous trout farms such as Albota or go kayaking on Olt in Rucar-Fagaras.
- Transfagarasan - also labeled "the Road to the Sky", "the Road to the Clouds"or "the Best Driving Road in the World" the Transfagarasan climbs, twists and descends right through Moldoveanu and Negoiu - the highest peaks in Fagaras Mountains and in Romania.
