Located on a hill in Maciuca village, Forest Retreat & Spa has the privilege of being in the center of the main sights and tourist attractions in Oltenia, an ancient land with a rich past.
Maciuca Commune has always been an epicenter of Oltenian history and culture, many of the folk elements being rooted here.
The traditional architecture is represented by the fortified tower houses of some the local important people from the 19th century. Otetelisanu Mansion, the place where the inventor of the pen, Petrache Poenaru, came into this world, is only 18 km away.
Another important tourist attraction, Dragasani Vineyards, is only 26 km away from Forest Retreat & Spa. The area is considered the Tuscany of Romania and some of the most prestigious wineries in Eastern Europe can be found here.
It is no wonder that wine tourism is becoming more and more widespread, with winery owners building real relaxing oases where tourists from all over the world are welcomed. Stirbey Winery, Bauer Winery, Avincis Winery and Dobrusa Winery are just a few of the not to be missed tourist sights if you are in the area.
If you travel approximately 50 km towards the mountains, you will find some of the oldest monasteries in Oltenia, one more impressive than the other – for instance Manastirea dintr-un lemn or Bistrita Monastery.
Also in the mountain area you will find Maldar Mansion, an architectural masterpiece, in the typical style of the area, but also famous caves, such as Polovragi Cave or Muierii Cave.
Almost 70 km away is the access point onto one of the most spectacular roads in the world, Transalpina. It reaches the altitude of 2,145 m and crosses Parang Mountains from South to North.
